5. Cookies, Tracking Technologies & Advertising

What Are Cookies and Pixels?

Cookies are small text files stored on your device. Pixels (also called web beacons or tracking pixels) are small pieces of code embedded in web pages that collect information about your interactions.

How We Use Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use the following technologies on the Service:

  • Google Analytics 4 (GA4) — We use GA4 to analyze website traffic, measure user engagement, and understand how visitors use the Service. GA4 collects data such as pages viewed, session duration, device type, geographic region, and user interactions. GA4 may use first-party cookies to distinguish unique users. You can opt out using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
  • Google Tag Manager (GTM) — GTM is a tag management system that allows us to manage and deploy marketing and analytics tags on the Service. GTM itself does not collect personal data, but it facilitates the deployment of other tags that may.
  • Meta (Facebook) Pixel — We use the Meta Pixel to measure the effectiveness of our advertising campaigns, to deliver targeted advertisements to you on Facebook, Instagram, and other Meta platforms, and to build custom audiences for advertising purposes. The Meta Pixel collects data about your interactions with the Service, including pages visited, actions taken (e.g., starting or completing the AIQ Test), and browser/device information. This data may be used by Meta to show you relevant advertisements. You can manage your ad preferences in your Facebook Ad Settings.

Advertising and Retargeting

We may use the data collected through the Meta Pixel and other tracking technologies to:

  • Show you advertisements for our Service on third-party platforms (retargeting)
  • Create "lookalike" or "similar" audiences to reach new potential users
  • Measure and optimize the performance of advertising campaigns
  • Track conversions from our advertisements (e.g., when a user who clicked an ad completes the AIQ Test)

Your Choices

You can control or opt out of certain tracking technologies:

  • Browser settings — Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies through their settings.
  • Google Analytics opt-out — Install the Google Analytics Opt-out Add-on.
  • Meta ad preferences — Manage your preferences at Facebook Ad Settings.
  • Do Not Track — We do not currently respond to "Do Not Track" browser signals, as there is no industry-standard method for doing so.
  • Industry opt-out — Visit DAA Opt-Out or NAI Opt-Out to opt out of interest-based advertising from participating companies.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account information and assessment data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. You may request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us (see Section 9).

7. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including:

  • Passwords are hashed using bcrypt (never stored in plaintext)
  • All data is transmitted over HTTPS/TLS encryption
  • Database access is restricted and encrypted
  • API endpoints are rate-limited and origin-checked

However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:

  • Access — Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
